Wednesday's Word to Ponder....... Recalling to Mind the Faithfulness of God “This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:21-23) Watching his nation being marched into captivity, Jeremiah felt that he had failed. His preaching and calling to the people those many years had not spared them from this horror. He assumed he had not made a difference. So what do you do when you feel like that? The above verses were Jeremiah’s response. The way out of disappointment and depression—and the way to overcome conclusions not based in fact, but rather founded only in our reactions to difficulty—is to ‘recall to mind’ the truths of God that you absolutely know to be so and thereby find hope in at the worst of times. Jeremiah recalled to mind God’s compassion, His love that does not fail and is renewed in commitment each new day, His pity upon us, and His great faithfulness! For years (through Jeremiah and others), God told His people what would happen if they did not turn from their sins. Sadly, for years, they ignored His warnings, mocked and persecuted His prophets, and refused to believe His message, and nothing had happened (for God waits long for us). But eventually He will do as He said! It is these four aspects of the nature of God that, in ‘recalling to mind, brought comfort to the troubled prophet—His longsuffering, His mercies, His compassion, and His faithful to His Word.

Monday Morning Moments Each week I will be feathering a thought to encourage us, to give you a thought to ponder and pray through if it speaks to your heart in a specific way. Utilizing the Sword Vs. Admiring the Sheath “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb. 4:12). Are you actually using the power of the Sword or just admiring the sheath that it comes in? Yes, we know the God we serve is awesome and all powerful; but how (continued next page) often do we remember the above great truth concerning His Sword? I know that I sometimes forget, thus the importance of this reminder in Hebrews about the power there is in the Word of God. Many people today view the Bible as being archaic, outdated, and irrelevant. It’s because they’re only looking at the sheath (perhaps battered and torn) that holds the Sword. They never bother to draw the beautiful Sword out (i.e., read the Word!) to discover deeper things of God, the salvation He has provided, and those areas in their lives He wants to change. However, for Christians, through the ‘piercing’ of the Sword, God is able to reveal any wrong or carnal ‘thoughts or intents of the heart’ in order to set them truly free. When it comes to warfare, they have a powerful weapon to effectively wield against the enemy of our souls Have you been remembering this great truth about the power of the Sword to discern the ‘still small voice’ of God, who is trying to reveal those areas He wants to transform or heal. So let the Word do its wonderful work in order to keep experiencing its power in your life and in the lives of all those who hear and obey it. I believe that the Holy Spirit brings my Facebook memories forth and draws my attention to them when I really need some encouragement from Him. I don't know how many times I skip right over these. Today was something that I truly needed as I am in the midst of a very hard and painful MS Flair-up and began treatment this morning. Those of you who have or know someone who has MS can only truly relate to what I am experiencing. It is also very fitting that I had planned to begin a Weekly Thought post but hand not yet begun. Today seems to be the day to do so. Please take a moment to read and ponder the words form my Word of Encouragement from the Greater Lafayette Prayer Watch 1 year ago. They are words from the heart of God through me to you A Word of Encouragement by GLGA board member Angela Meek Soaking in the Truth of His Love “The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: ‘Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you’” (Jeremiah 31:3). The book of Jeremiah is one of my favorites. When I am in that ‘I-know-I’m-searching-for-something-but-don’t-know-what-it-is’ place, or just wanting to ‘soak’ in God’s word, oft times I will go to Jeremiah. The other day as I was doing some ‘soaking’ there, the above verse seemed to draw my heart’s attention. As I began to ponder it and read several different translations, it began to resonate. The Lord is underscoring some very important things about His love for us. It is ever-lasting, which has as much to do with the past as it does with the future. Understand that God is not saying, “Now that I love you, I will love you forever.” But rather, He is saying, “I have always loved you and will love you forevermore.” Let me share, perhaps, an imperfect analogy. Before being a parent, I knew that I would love my kids. Then when my daughter was born, I was intensely happy that she was now in my life, and I loved her with a love that was naturally in me as her mother. That love was not based on anything she did, or who she was—she was my child! Without having to take a vow, I knew that I would fully commit myself to her, protecting and providing for her to the best of my ability. Now, soak in this truth—God’s love for you is infinitely greater than that! Because He is God, He knew you before you existed. And before you had a chance to fail or succeed, He loved you with an eternal love that was not based on your deeds or lovability, but based on His nature. The Message Bible translates Jeremiah 31:3 this way: “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love and more love!” That’s who God is and what His intent is—to love you and lavish that love upon you so you’ll be drawn closer to Him each day. Are you allowing yourself to be so drawn to Him today?
